How we think

Assistance is about everyday life. The morning has to work, you need to get where you are going, and the person helping you should be someone you know and trust.

That is why we are local – our assistants live where our clients live. That is why we answer when you call. And that is why we would rather be small and reliable than large and anonymous.

Decisions about your assistance are made in Åland – not on the mainland.

For you who are entitled to personal assistance – or are a relative

Personal assistance is granted by KST (the municipalities' social services). If you have a decision, you can ask for Åland Care as your provider – just tell your case worker.

We are happy to explain how it works. Call us and we will walk you through it, plainly.

What is personal assistance?

Everyday help for people with disabilities – at home, at work, in school and in your free time. You decide what the help is used for.

How do I apply for assistance in Åland?

You apply to KST (the municipalities' social services). They assess your needs and make a decision. Once you have a decision, you choose who provides the assistance.

Does it cost me anything?

No. Assistance is granted by KST and costs you nothing.

Can I switch to Åland Care?

Yes. Tell your case worker at KST that you would like us as your provider – we are happy to explain how.

Do you work in English?

Our working language is Swedish, but we are happy to talk with you in English by phone or email, and to arrange meetings in English.

I want to work at Åland Care – as a personal assistant

We are looking for personal assistants across the region – in Mariehamn and especially in Finström, Geta, Saltvik, Sund, Vårdö and the archipelago. No care education is needed: what matters most is that you are reliable, warm and like people.

We offer collective agreement pay, proper introduction and a schedule that fits your life. Part time or full time.

Our working language is Swedish, and we expect assistants to speak Swedish. You are still welcome to write to us in English.
